Budapest city walks

We would like to introduce four sightseeing tours with different themes, which describe the exciting history, beauties and hidden treasures of Budapest. Everyone will find the most interesting and exciting topic, through which they can learn the secrets of our capital city.

Below we have highlighted some of the tours of Imagine Budapest and Hosszúlépés, however, you can choose from several other walks as well.

Secret gardens and squares downtown

From the street, nothing can be seen, just a battered façade, an obscure gateway, and a massive double door … Do you want to know what is hiding inside?

Step in with us, and you will find yourself in a magical world of centuries-old trees, colorful flowers, marble wells and shady benches along the winding paths – green oases in the midst of the concrete jungle, which reveal the harmonious coexistence of man and nature in an urban environment, and invite us to rest and to contemplate. These inner gardens and parks squatting among the apartment houses guard the secrets of their onetime residents: they tell us stories of glory and defeat, love and death – and thus make the history of the city living and tangible.

During our 2.5-hour walk we gain access to some beautiful private gardens which are otherwise closed to the public; we also visit a cloister garden and one of the prettiest inner-city parks. While you learn a lot about the development and the botanical curiosities of Budapest, you can be carried away by the true tales of a long-ago town.

Length of trip: 150 minutes

Bauhaus twist - Modern architecture in PasarétA walk in the footsteps of the Napraforgó street model estate secrets

Budapest - the middle-class people of the 1930s no longer envision their everyday lives in the historicist tenements of the city center, but in green surroundings, modern-style houses. On our walk about the secrets of the Pasarét Bauhaus, we discover the Napraforgó street model estate - a rarity all over the world – presenting the possibilities of modern civil homes in the form of an outdoor exhibition. Through the design of the Pasarét square church it becomes clear why the church was receptive to the clean lines of modern architecture.During our walk, we recall the internationally renowned Hungarian architects through their buildings, who not only followed but also shaped the Bauhaus school.

Do you want a private Bauhaus twist walk with friends, family or colleagues? You can also order the walk as a private program. To arrange an appointment, please contact us at info@hosszulepes.org.

Members of the Chamber of Hungarian Architects can claim 0.5 credit points for the walk from our staff on the spot at the end of the walk. There is no additional cost to the credit point settlement in addition to the entry price, the claim does not need to be indicated in advance.
