Route 11 of the National Blue Trail guides you through the varied countryside of Gerecse. The rapid alternation of wild forests, lookout points and friendly, tidy settlements makes the hike in Gerecse colorful.A magnificent view of the countryside opens before us and the Danube panorama of the northern hills is particularly noteworthy with the Börzsöny rising above its surroundings.

Hiking in the Gerecse is a great experience all year round – however, the most ideal is the springtime, when you can smell the scent of ramsons in the hillsides among the fresh greenery of the budding trees and fields. 

Although we have to overcome relatively small level differences, prepare for a continuous "roller coaster ride".  It’s going to be an exhausting route because of the hills.  We won’t pass any settlements in the first 50 km, so we have to be equipped with a significant amount of food.

TIPS

• Somlyó’s peak (435 m) offers an excellent view, which can be reached from the Somlyóvár chalet on the K ▲ sign.

• The Jankovich Cave above Mogyorósbánya is worth seeing.

• We don’t come across many springs, so bring enough water. We will only have access to water around populated areas.

• The Selim Cave above Tatabánya is a similar attraction to the Jankovich Cave

• Spectacular via ferrata routes can be found in the wall above Tatabánya

• The Kálvária Hill Nature Reserve in Tata is an open-air geological museum
