Henri Matisse – The Colour of Ideas

The Henri Matisse exhibition presents his oeuvre spanning nearly sixty years, features more than 150 artefacts and displays his works in chronological order. From the early days to pieces created in the 1950s, the oeuvre explores issues such as the relationship between line and colour or the connection between shape and interior.

The exhibition also demonstrates the genre diversity of Matisse's life-work, as in addition to the approximately 30 paintings, unique and duplicated graphic works (especially art books and cover designs) and 17 sculptures are also on display. In a separate section, you can see the monumental glass window designs. In addition to studies by foreign and domestic authors, the exhibition catalogue includes a selection of Matisse's own writings some of which are published for the first time in Hungarian translation.

The exhibition can be visited in Budapest at the Museum of Fine Arts until October 16.
