Henry Kissinger: Leadership - Six Studies in World Strategy

In Leadership, Kissinger analyses the lives of six extraordinary leaders through the distinctive strategies of statecraft which he believes they embodied. After the Second World War, Konrad Adenauer brought defeated and morally bankrupt Germany back into the community of nations by what Kissinger calls 'the strategy of humility'. Charles de Gaulle set France beside the victorious Allies and renewed its historic grandeur by 'the strategy of will'. During the Cold War, Richard Nixon gave geostrategic advantage to the United States by 'the strategy of equilibrium'. After twenty-five years of conflict, Anwar Sadat brought a vision of peace to the Middle East by a 'strategy of transcendence'. Against all odds, Lee Kwan Yew created a powerhouse city-state, Singapore, by 'the strategy of excellence'. Although when she came to power Britain was known as 'the sick man of Europe', Margaret Thatcher renewed her country's morale and international position by 'the strategy of conviction'. To each of these studies, Kissinger brings historical perception, public experience and - because he knew each of their subjects, and participated in many of the events he describes - personal knowledge. The book is enriched by insights and judgements such as only he could make, and concludes with his reflections on world order and the indispensability of leadership today.

Marshall, Tim: The Power of Geography: Ten Maps That Reveals the Future of Our World

'I can't imagine reading a better book this year' Daily Mirror

Tim Marshall's global bestseller Prisoners of Geography showed how every nation's choices are limited by mountains, rivers, seas and concrete. Since then, the geography hasn't changed. But the world has.

In this revelatory new book, Marshall explores ten regions that are set to shape global politics in a new age of great-power rivalry: Australia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Greece, Turkey, the Sahel, Ethiopia, Spain and Space. Find out why Europe's next refugee crisis is closer than it thinks as trouble brews in the Sahel; why the Middle East must look beyond oil and sand to secure its future; why the eastern Mediterranean is one of the most volatile flashpoints of the twenty-first century; and why the Earth's atmosphere is set to become the world's next battleground.

Delivered with Marshall's trademark wit and insight, this is a lucid and gripping exploration of the power of geography to shape humanity's past, present - and future.
'Another outstanding guide to the modern world. Marshall is a master at explaining what you need to know and why.' Peter Frankopan

István Örkény: One-minute stories- illustrated – with the drawings of László Réber

The genre of one-minute stories began its conquering journey with István Örkény’s volume during the festive book week of 1968.  This opened a new era in the literature of short stories. However, the one-minute short stories are also a memorable piece of Hungarian book art: the illustrator was László Réber. The volumes of quite a few of our writers (for example, Ervin Lázár, Éva Janikovszky, Pál Békés) are inevitably evoked by his drawings, and with his vision and caricaturistic philosophy, he also became the co-author of Örkény. The combined effect of text and images (about sixty graphics!) is still disturbing today.

Apart from two alterations, this edition is unchanged compared to the ’68 release.
