Farmers' markets in Budapest

Czako garden

We can choose from the goods of the country’s best producers at the meeting point of Gellért Hill, Naphegy and Tabán, right next to Hegyalja road. The oldest surviving building hosts the market in Tabán, the former wine cellar house of Naphegy with a vineyard, a wine cellar, a confectionery, a market in the garden and a market bistro in the former barn.  They are here every Saturday between 8 am and 2 pm, we can bathe in the experience of real primary producer markets and we can enjoy pâtés and creams for breakfast on the spot made from fresh products.

MOM bio-market

Anyone who cares about quality has certainly been to the famous organic market, where only certified organic products can be sold and this is strictly controlled by the maintainers.Every Saturday, rain or shine, shoppers are welcome between 6 am and 1 pm in Csörsz street.

There is a typically Hungarian part of the Eco market: a line of 17 stores with a semi-covered customer area and opposite that a 20-25 tent area, where you can mostly get Hungarian products. The craftsmen can be found in one of the corners of the Ecomarket, making the products on offer diverse.

The number of vendors occasionally approaches 100.The offer is extremely wide: mixed vegetables and fruits, (goat) milk, cottage cheese, sour cream, cheeses, honey, smoked and cod meat as well as processed meat products, jams, juices, sprouts, imported packaged organic products, dry food, some cosmetics, pickles, pickled products, as well as handicrafts, books, publications, etc. are available. In addition, it is possible to have hot meals and hot drinks.

Pancs – Gasztro Placc

Élesztőház in Tűzoltó street offers a place for Gasztro Placc, a community market that introduces and gathers Hungarian primary producers, where producers - for whom harmony with nature is important - offer their products, so goods include seasonal vegetables, fruits, cheeses, homemade hams and salamis, baked goods, syrups, jams, juices and wines. Moreover, once a month a design fair is added to the event, where we can view and of course purchase the special products of Hungarian designers.

Szimpla Sundays - primary producer market

We cannot leave Szimpla out of this list, which operates on the site of the city’s first well-known ruin pub.The last five successful years have proven that there is room for a high-quality, market-oriented producer market in the middle of the city, which awaits its customers on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - roughly 1,500 to 2,000 people visiting every week. Vendors are all real producers having to follow strict rules, making sure that the widest possible range of products appear. What’s more, there is even real Sunday-style live music from week to week, interpreted by jazz, world and folk music bands.
