This year, the deservedly famous Szentendre Christmas Fair will exceptionally be held outdoors, but in terms of programs it will be online. At the end of November, the Main Square receives its festive decorations: in addition to the huge Christmas tree, the Advent wreath, the nativity scene and the illuminating snow globes can also be seen. The most beautiful event of the Advent period, the candle lighting in the main square begins at 5pm on all four Sundays of Advent. The candle-lighting is accompanied by a common prayer, a short festive program and light projection. Due to the current situation the festivities after the candle lighting have been cancelled this year. We are relocating some of our programs to virtual space for safety reasons: namely the “Let's go to Bethlehem” program series of the Szentendre kindergartners, the Advent concert of Musica Beata and the New Szentendre Chamber Orchestra and the folk dancing of the Szentendre Dance Ensemble.

Heinrich Schütz: Christmas Story, SWV 435

According to recordings, Heinrich Schütz: The Christmas Story (SWV 435) was introduced in 1640 in Dresden, entitled: Historia of the joyful and blessed birth of Jesus Christ, son of God and Mary.The text of the work consists of selected biblical quotations based on the translation of Martin Luther. The piece was composed by an early German Baroque master at an old age. With a clean design, clear instrument handling, it takes us through the New Testament in a slightly distant manner.
