The Kevély-mountain lavender field in Pilisborosjenő

At the end of the village, you can find the lavender field, which is north of the capital at the foot of the 534-meter-high Nagy-Kevély. This beautiful environment hides many secrets, such as the Roman road above the fields leading to Aquincum. Viniculture has a long tradition in the village, so the vineyards under the hillside give local producers the opportunity to produce their own savory wines. The area is also a very popular excursion destination for visitors, its most famous attraction is the Camel Rock, and one of the filming locations of Egri Csillagok is the model of the Eger Castle. The castle was renovated by the municipality. It is also interesting that the traditionalist castle games are held here every September.

Nature lovers are attracted here by the hiking trails, the wonderful green environment and the fresh air. The lavender field started as a family business in 2016, which is on a 2-acre area. Planting, plant care and harvesting are all done by hand, there is no mechanical intervention. The cultivation of the land and plant care are done without chemicals.

And why is it such a popular plant? Perhaps because of its versatility. It calms the nervous system, its tincture helps the regeneration of the skin, such as a sting or it can be a cure for eczema and rheumatic pains. Honey can be made from its nectar. Lavender soap exerts its effect while bathing so that sleep is guaranteed to be soothing, and it can even be intensified by evaporating its essential oil or mixing it into a massage oil.

Lake Naplás

After the Buda Landscape Protection Area, this is the second largest nature reserve in the capital with its 150 acres and one of the most valuable ecological areas, because in addition to preserving the special flora and fauna of the bog meadows, it is also an important station during the autumn and winter migration of birds. An increasing number of families, line-fishermen, cyclists, forest walkers or athletes just bypassing the lake are beginning to discover the richness of the area, fleeing the overcrowded city.

The flood protection reservoir of the Szilas stream, or as everyone knows it: Lake Naplás is worth visiting to recharge. In district XVI. next to Cinkota, on the shore of the 16-acre stagnant water is the 5-kilometer bicycle path along the 2–6-meter deep Szilas River. Swimming and ice skating is forbidden; however, you can fish and it is also an excellent place for lounging and picnicking on the grass.

The lake has been protected since 1997 along with the surrounding 150-acre area. In addition to the open water surface, you will find reeds, willows, bogs, planted park forests, streams, alder groves, and all this is surrounded by fields. Unsurprisingly, in such diverse habitats as those in the Lake Naplás Nature Reserve, more than 400 plant and 200 animal species live, such as our only domestic native turtle species, the swamp turtle.

The forest areas located on the Pest side of the capital have significant development potential, which is why the construction of a new lookout tower in the vicinity of Lake Naplás was important. The 22-meter-high structure fits in the environment and offers a unique 360° panorama of Lake Naplás and the Gödöllő Hills.

Meadow in Hűvösvölgy

The three-acre, newly renovated meadow in Hűvösvölgy was improved with a thematic playground and an outdoor fitness park. In the consortium of the Hungarian Hiking Association and the Pilis Park Forest the HUF 30 million development of the green area is not only an attractive XXI. century forest rest area for weekend hikers, but also a place for those who love exercise and lead a healthy life.

The handball court built in 2019 was the first step in its renewal, followed by several others. The thematic playground not only serves recreation, but also playful learning: its elements are works of art created by sculptors that harmoniously fit into their environment, evoking our forests’ fauna and flora with their form and material. The outdoor fitness park built along the footpath can be used to improve our fitness. A dozen sports equipment are available, including a bench press, a combined stall bar, a walking rail, a rowing machine and a push up bar. The island layout not only ensures a safe environment, but also that everyone can keep their privacy, enjoy the work-out and the ambience of the forest.
